About 1400 years ago, God (or Allah) decided that it’s time to send yet another messenger to get everything straightened up, and for that he revealed his message to a guy named Mohammed who lived in a small village in the middle of nowhere (sometimes referred to as Mecca). The people of Mecca though that one way to test Mohammed’s claims is through asking questions that supposedly no one can answer unless empowered by God through revelation. Not sure why would you suppose that your questions can not be answered by anyone unless a messenger of God, but hey! That’s what happened so let’s take a look at these questions and how Mohammed answered them!

The Lunar Phase

A punch of guys approached Mohammed and asked him about the moon. They said: why does it appear to us as a crescent at the beginning of the month and fills up as the month goes? God revealed the answer to Mohammed:

"They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say: They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for Pilgrimage" 2:189(1)

Yes! That’s it, that is the correct answer, and you thought it’s because of differences of the observer’s position on earth, but now we all know Allah’s divine answer to the lunar phase and that is: they are sign for us to mark time and to know when to go for “Pilgrimage”. Think about it, without those phases, we would be fucked, we won’t be able to tell the time or date or count our age and worse yet, we won’t be able to travel to Mecca for Pilgrimage and eventually die. That was really an answer from the divine…ahem… All-knowing God.

Women’s Menstruations

And then Mohammed was asked about women’s menstruations, what is it? Why does it happen and what should we do? Once again, God has the answer:

"They ask thee concerning women's courses. Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: So keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are clean." 2:222(2)

Bingo! Jackpot for Allah and his messenger. I mean that explains it. Menstruation is nothing but a hurt and a pollution and you, men, should not do love to your women during that until they are clean. No one can think of an answer so clever, comprehensive, and true like that unless by revelation.

The Spirit

Mohammed was asked by some Jews about the spirit. What is the spirit (of a man?). OK, this is an interesting question and, as an atheist, I would like to know what it is, so here goes the answer:

"And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the Rooh (the Spirit); Say: "The Rooh (the Spirit): it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little." 17:85(3)

I should say though that you might find this verse translated differently, for example, the word Rooh has been translated to revelation. It’s just a pathetic way of trying to escape being owned by almost any 10 year old person. So Allah’s answer was: tell them: I’m the only one who knows and you Jews are just ignorant for I can tell but you won’t understand. Oh Allah, that’s WHY they are asking you in the first place because you’re the only one who knows and can answer the damn question proving in the process the Mohammad IS your messenger. Let us all pray to Allah for job well-done answering these questions.
